Stephen Bittel is the founder and chairman of Terranova Corp – an opportunistic U.S.-based real estate company that has created a value of more than $1 billion through building better communities. Talking about his journey up the path to success, the company’s CEO said that his secret lies in outworking everyone—which he has always been doing from the first day he joined college up to date. He described himself in three words – hardworking, intense, and aggressive.
While Stephen Bittel doesn’t see himself as aggressive, everyone around him describes him as so, which forces him to smile more. Besides being focused, he has always been intense from his childhood, and he prepares adequately and doesn’t rest until he achieves his goals. He added that being a hard worker is why he is a successful real estate mogul today – founder of a leading commercial real estate firm in Southern Florida, Terranova Corp.
Behind the big name we hear all the time, Stephen Bittel is an ordinary person. A Miami native-born at Jackson Memorial Hospital who was raised on Miami Beach, attended Miami Palmetto Senior High School and Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine. He was an average student in high school, but his outstanding excellence in extracurricular activities gave him a space at Bowdoin. The college’s demands for academic excellence pushed him to work harder and eventually begin outworking everyone.
His tough years at college sharpened him for life outside school, which inspired him to create a’ Terranova’ company, which translates to the new world in Latin in 1980. Initially, the company was based at his home but eventually grew over the years, and in the early 2000s, there was a breakthrough that led to partnerships with huge brands such as Winn Dixie, Publix, Walgreens, Starbucks, and Payless Shoes. Terranova deals with commercial real estate properties, including office buildings, industrial parks, self-storage, and multi-family assets.
