Retiring to work for nonprofit organizations, she is on the board of various societies and organizations for the arts.

She lives in Houston, Texas, and has traveled extensively around the world, visiting over 180 countries.

Never without a camera in hand, a hobby is taking photographs while on her travels.

Franci Neely was interviewed and asked to describe a typical day in her life.

Rising early, she begins planning the day and tries to include at least one project she might be likely to bypass.

She advises not procrastinating and strives to be proactive and not just reactive.

She is excited by the trend that was learned during the pandemic, of the arts community becoming able to reach more diverse, broader audiences.

When asked what advice she would give to her younger self, Neely suggests making and sticking to choices about her philanthropic contributions based on a principled reason.

As an entrepreneur, she advises avoiding making impulsive decisions.

She mentions that a failure on her part has been to give too little to too many.

Asked questions on some more personal topics, Neely was asked to describe the best $100 she ever spent.

She relates the story of the night she was trying to hail a Manhattan cab and was harassed by a man on the street.

A young man stopped to help her, waiting with her while she called an Uber.

He didn’t want to be paid for his kindness, but they exchanged contact information.

She later sent him a check, and he told her he used the money to pay for medical care for his mother.

She was also asked to recommend a book and mentioned two recent novels that show the difference kindness can make in other people’s lives.

She ends her interview with a favorite quote from Winston Churchill.
